She earned a BS in Biology from The Colorado College in 1979, and is a 1984 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

She originally specialized in equine (horse) medicine, but since 1985 has focused on small animal medicine and surgery.

In 1990 she obtained her Certificate in Veterinary Acupuncture.

Dr. Ungar is a member of the California Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Animal Hospital Association and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Association.

She and her husband live in the Kensington area.
