Save the Tigerby Mario Torero I painted these banners to memorialize a series of murals painted with the students of Wilson Middle School during an "anti-violence-peoples unity" artist's residency sponsored by the California Arts Council from 1991-1994. To the surprise of the community and myself, without notice, the entire collection of public art murals was destroyed last year.
Two banners reflect the tiger's eyes. The Tiger is the school mascot. Students who helped paint the murals are represented in the other banners. I added the large profiles and torsos to dramatize human presence and force. |
