Yacht Plant and President Wash Ashore by Marsha Gibbons |
||
Rodriques "Rocky" von Plant while taking the president out to meet the troops returning from the Malvinas War, struck the converted troop ship Andrea-Doria, nearly sinking the Plant. As the Plant washed up on to the beach, dozens of waiting reporters and camera men swarmed to chronicle the indignity of the "unsinkable president" along with that of the shipbuilder of both the Plant and the Andrea-Doria. When the press arrived however, they found only two women at the site. Rocky and the president had changed into women's clothes to avoid the reporters. One of the reporters from Sweden who was a cross-dresser him self, recognized the ruse, but taking a liking to the president said nothing until years later, writing about the incident in his tell-all book "Va er Kendt?"
