What's in a
name?
San Diego State University, started out in 1897
as the
San Diego Normal School, a training facility for elementary school
teachers. The nearby community became known as
Normal Heights. By 1935 the school was renamed San Diego State College
and relocated here. In the early 70's we saw the college become a
university, but the name "College" continued as the name of the community.
