Broadway, JCPenney, J.W. Robinson's and Buffum's, it long competed with the
nearby Mission Valley Center. In August 1981 an expansion opened, adding
Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, establishing Fashion Valley as the fashion leader
in the valley.
Buffum's closed in 1991, and their location was reopened in 1992 as I. Magnin,
which in turn closed in 1995, selling the store to Saks Fifth Avenue. Robinson's
became a Robinsons-May in 1993, while The Broadway assumed the Macy's moniker in
1996.
In October 1997 a $110 million renovation opened, including enlargements of the
Macy's, Nordstrom and Robinsons-May stores and In 2001, the current owner of the
property, Lend Lease Prime Property Fund, brought in Simon Property Group as
half-owner and manager of the property.
Robinsons-May shuttered their store in March 2006, and the location was reopened
as San Diego's first Bloomingdale's on November 18, 2006.
